Frequently asked questions:

Your safety is our top priority and whilst riding a Segway is extremely safe when used properly, it may at first feel unnatural to have a machine holding your balance for you. For this reason all riders are given a 15 minute safety briefing where you will be shown how to mount, ride, steer, stop and dismount your Segway safely. If you do not follow the guidance and instructions given to you during this training session you could fall and injure yourself or someone else.

For your own protection safety helmets will be provided and must be worn. Anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be allowed to participate.

You need to be at least 10 years old 52" tall and between 7 stone and 18 stone in weight to ride safely. Please see the FAQ section for more details.

Segways are permitted for use on Douglas Promenade walkway outside of the cycle lane and designated forests and beaches on the Island. Pedestrians have the right of way over Segways and Segway riders must give way to pedestrians at all times. At night Segways are fitted with rear and forward facing lights.

Whilst Segways are safe when used within the guidelines outlined in the safety demonstration, we cannot predict every riders actions. Riders who act recklessly or without due care and attention for other users and members of the public will have their tour suspended.

Our terms and conditions state that all riders must sign a disclaimer prior to taking part to ensure they are aware of the potential dangers and agree to take responsibility for their actions. Therefore, if you do not sign the disclaimer on the day, you will not be allowed to participate.

What is a Segway PT?

The Segway® Personal Transporter (PT) is a ground breaking self-balancing personal transportation device designed to go anywhere you go. With its unique, innovative technology, the Segway PT glides over most terrains silently and efficiently, producing no emissions. It's easy and fun to operate. To ride a Segway all you have to do is step on and lean in the direction you want to go, and your Segway PT takes you there. And don't worry, it takes care of the balancing on two wheels part.

What is the minimum age?

You must be at least 10 years old to ride a Segway and at least 7 stone and 52" tall. Riders 10 -16 years old must be accompanied by an adult at a ratio of 5 children to 1 adult. Riders 16 -17 years old can ride without an adult but they cannot supervise a minor.

Is there a maximum age?

No, as long as you can step on and off the Segway and you can stand for the duration of the tour.

Is there a weight limit?

Yes, you must be at least 7 stone and no more than 18 stone to safely operate a Segway.

What happens in poor weather?

Usually we will continue to operate if light showers are forecast. If it's persistent or heavy rain we will suspend tours and will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible using the contact details you provided when booking. Snow or heavy seas crashing over the Promenade sea wall will require us to suspend tours for safety reasons. We will of course provide a 100% refund or offer an alternative date if your tour is cancelled.

What should I wear?

It can be cold, especially in the winter months, so we recommend you wear suitable clothing, especially gloves, to keep you warm and bring wet weather gear if it looks like rain. Remember to wear comfortable shoes. High heels are not recommended.

Can I take the Segway on my own?

No, for your own safety and the safety of others, all tours are conducted under the supervision of a guide.

Pedestrians / Bicycles on the promenade

Pedestrians using the promenade walkway have the right of way over Segways, you will be required to give way to pedestrians. Segways are not permitted to use the cycle lane.

Can I take photo's and video's or use my mobile phone?

You are encouraged to bring along your camera and we can stop along the way for photos but unfortunately we do not allow the use of video cameras or mobile phones whilst riding as your safety and the safety of others could be compromised if your attention is focussed elsewhere.

What is your cancellation policy?

We offer a 100% refund if you cancel 72 hours (or more) in advance of your scheduled departure. All tours cancelled between 72 and 24 hours prior to the scheduled departure are subject to a 50%cancellation fee. All tours cancelled within 24 hours of scheduled departure are non-refundable.
