Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Segway PT?
The Segway® Personal Transporter (PT) is a ground breaking self-balancing personal transportation device designed to go anywhere you go. With its unique, innovative technology, the Segway PT glides over most terrains silently and efficiently, producing no emissions. It's easy and fun to operate. To ride a Segway all you have to do is step on and lean in the direction you want to go, and your Segway PT takes you there. And don't worry, it takes care of the balancing on two wheels part.
What is the minimum age?
You must be at least 10 years old to ride a Segway and between 33kg (5 stone 4 pounds) and 114kg (18 stone) and at least 52" tall. Riders 10 -16 years old must be accompanied by an adult at a ratio of 5 children to 1 adult. Riders 16 -17 years old can ride without an adult but they cannot supervise a minor.
Is there a maximum age?
No, as long as you can step on and off the Segway and you can stand for the duration of the tour.
Is there a weight limit?
Yes, you must be between least 33kg (5 stone 4 pounds) and 114kg (18 stone) to safely operate a Segway.
What happens in poor weather?
Usually we will continue to operate if light showers are forecast. If it's persistent or heavy rain we will suspend tours and will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible using the contact details you provided when booking. Snow or heavy seas crashing over the Promenade sea wall will require us to suspend tours for safety reasons. We will of course provide a 100% refund or offer an alternative date if your tour is cancelled.

It can be cold, especially in the winter months, so we recommend you wear suitable clothing, especially gloves, to keep you warm and bring wet weather gear if it looks like rain. Remember to wear comfortable shoes. High heels are not recommended.
Can I take the Segway on my own?
No, for your own safety and the safety of others, all tours are conducted under the supervision of a guide.
Pedestrians / Bicycles on the promenade
Pedestrians using the promenade walkway have the right of way over Segways, you will be required to give way to pedestrians. Segways are not permitted to use the cycle lane.
Can I take photo's and video's or use my mobile phone?
You are encouraged to bring along your camera and we can stop along the way for photos but unfortunately we do not allow the use of video cameras or mobile phones whilst riding as your safety and the safety of others could be compromised if your attention is focussed elsewhere.
